US-Japan-NoWar Network forms a bridge for Peace Activism across the Pacific

On November 05, 2001, the Network presented “The Peace Movement in the US & Japan: An Opportunity for an International Alliance for Peace, not War!”, an evening of presentations, discussions and food to the Bay Area public keen to expand solidarity across the Pacific to connect local struggles against the current US War and a unilateral foreign policy.

We welcomed guests of the All-Japan Postal Workers Union (Zentei), Osaka-Kobe Chapter in Japan, to share their struggles against the ensuing war and Japan’s manipulation of the people’s fears to legitimatize remilitarization against its own people’s will as well as the fierce criticism by the foreign victims of Japan’s aggression during WW II. They also shared their unique predicament as postal workers union: since taking power, Prime Minister Koizumi has been a vocal proponent of the privatization of the Japanese Postal Service.

The US Bay Area Groups with an anti-war and social justice focus shared a synopsis of their recent activities and the networking continued throughout the evening over warm Nietnamese food and cozy company!
