Are you a NOSEI?? Do you identify with one or more of these categories: Yonsei, Gosei, Sansei-han, Shin-Issei, Shin-Nisei, Hapa, Newcomer?? But you feel as if you belong to NO GENERATION?? Then come join your fellow NOSEI for a day of networking, food and action!
The NOSEI SUMMIT will bring together 50-75 activists, organizers, educators and students between the ages of 17-35 who identify as Japanese American / Nikkei to explore this group as a possible NETWORK to play a VIABLE ROLE in the future of Japantown.
San Francisco's Japantown is in transition. With the advent of the SF Redevelopment Agency-funded Japantown Task Force and the changing demographics of the community, the Japantown neighborhood needs and desires new voices. There are, however, few ways to incorporate the progressive ideas and resources that many of our generation might bring to Japantown.
The NOSEI SUMMIT seeks to create a network of progressive, young advocates who desire to create real change and new opportunities in Japantown. We will come away from the Summit with a NOSEI NETWORK to share resources and build strategies for action.
For the Summit, we have tapped into an extraordinary group of organizers and activists from the San Francisco / East Bay area to lead workshops and discussions in the following areas: Hapa Issues, LGBTQ Community, Artists, Japanese Nationals, Activists/Educators and high school youth. The afternoon hours will be spent on a Community Visioning process during which we will create a collaborative Nosei vision of Japantown.
